  • Wine that makes you feel like you have no underwear on
  • Wine that tastes better in his mouth
  • Wine that will make him stay, after your clothes are gone
  • Wine that crystallizes your faults
  • Wine that you don’t even have to drink to miss him so much, but need a glass of to explain exactly how much
  • Wine that secretly passes on its wisdom into your vine-like veins, French, Italian, Swiss histories swirling in your own
  • Wine that stains your lips, bleeds your insides out in untimely “I love you”s
  • Wine that’s only drunk in solitude listening to dark and moody music, makes you reminisce
  • Wine that makes you feel alive, alive right now now now! It’s like a chilly winter air, and you’re naked in a fountain on top of a shadowless world
  • Wine that you drink to fish yourself out of
  • Wine that plays the piano so sad, so slow, so perfectly cracking your calm, soaking your paper-mache heart, loosely swinging your fortunes over the bridge you don’t don’t don’t JUMP! – over.
  • Wine that you find hidden behind a bookshelf of books, mixed with cork, dust, and the darkness of two winters, that you drink immediately, wondering when you forgot about it
  • Wine that incites revenge, makes you jump the wall, climb over the deck, unlock the door, and . . . fuck his roommate
  • Wine that you use to erase every bit of evidence
  • Wine that fights your fears for you – the kind that gives you that good night sleep without the lullaby
  • Wine that crutches you through the realization that it’ll never work…day after day, after day, after day, until you’re back to the wine that makes you reminisce when he’s finally gone
  • Wine that makes you realize the morning after that your liver is tired of filtering five bottles a week
  • Wine that reignites you
  • Wine that you bring over to someone’s house the for the first time, hoping for a fun friendship only to develop a counterfeit bond
  • Wine that’s shared, sipped in communion with the friend who you’ve hurt, loved, left, scarred even, but who will raise a glass to you
  • Wine that makes you go from blah to magic
  • Wine that reclaims your heart when you think you’ve lost it to that asshole who didn’t tell you he had a child stashed away, a ticket to join the army, a life to be lived without you
  • Wine that eases your nerves, one by one diffusing the landmines around your heart
  • Wine that you mix with other wines and still other wines, and ends of bottles of wine, brewing a recipe for regrets
  • Wine that makes you wake up wishing you hadn’t stopped drinking
  • Wine that will make you keep coming back to it, make you prefer it, make you rely on that smooth, soothing viscosity that slips down your throat and wrenches your heart
  • Wine that transports you so much more easily through your camera lens, standing with your skin bare to the starry, airy alley way
  • Wine that rekindles you to yourself
  • Wine that makes you want to roll your tongue around words you don’t know, sounding sounds you don’t know
  • Wine that teaches you to be tougher the next time someone buys you a glass
  • Wine that makes you laugh without reason

  • Wine that you’ve drunk at the edge of a cliff, at the entrance of a garage, in the backseat of a car – but it tastes different every time
  • Wine that wakes you up without a hang over but with no memory of how that beautiful man wound up next to you
  • Wine that keeps him waking up next to you
  • Wine that marinates in your mood: deep, dark, heavy, opaque, with a subtle hint of bitterness
  • Wine that makes it easier to wait – wait for that whisper, that kiss, that hand that holds you from slipping on fresh snow
  • Wine that brings him back to you 24 hours and 5 blocks later
  • Wine that answers all your reasons why
  • Wine that makes you dizzy enough to fall into the right arms, the rare, wine that without any expectation will GoogleMap you to him
  • Wine that suspends your heart in the silence before what happens next…wondering if he feels the same
  • Wine that I will drink now, to keep him off my mind

    1. I really like the format of this wine list, instead of listing it the traditional way with red and white and pairing it with food, you list all the reason why you might want to or need to drink wine. It’s funny and poignant at the same time.

    2. I don’t know why but I’ve got this need to go buy some bottles of wine now.

    3. I looooove this! It’s wonderfully written and very creative! I agree with what Sameera said. It’s a much more pogniant piece than which wine to have with certain types of food because these are the real reasons people grab a bottle of wine; whether it’s to celebrate, to make a new friend, or to drown out the memory of an ex.

    4. This really is a beautiful piece. It’s much more poetry than typical laundry list. You tap into some powerful emotions that draw the reader in; it’s emotionally draining but also cathartic.
